Adhesiolysis is surgery to divide internal scar tissue that may join organs or tissues together.
Assessment first
Adhesions can form after surgery, infection or inflammation, but their presence does not always explain symptoms. Examination and other tests help assess whether an operation is appropriate.
Considering benefits and risks
Surgery may be considered for selected problems, including some forms of obstruction. It cannot guarantee relief of chronic pain, and new adhesions can develop afterward.
